The past month has seen an immense upsurge in the revolutionary struggle in Argentina - a triple offensive of the Cordoba car workers, the Buenos Aires students and the People's Revolutionary Army (ERP).

of Peron - last hope of capitalist rule - on 1 July, together with a worsening cconomic crisis, manifest in a rate of inflation which will surpass 35% by the end of the year and B CREOS DIECE OCE CORDOBA STRUGGLE The seeds of the present struggle in Cordoba lie in a work-to-rule begun in mid-June by workers at the IKA-Renault factory in support of a 60% pay claim, which threatened to smash Peron's 'social pact' incomest policy at one blow. The work-to-rule turned into a lock-out in August and over 2,000 workers were laid off at the [KA-Renault plant, meanwhile, INC SUBrE CHEIR CSE WORTEL union - SMATA - found that their Cordoba leadership had been expelled by the Buenos Aires union bureab Crats.

This offensive against a 'class struggle anion was supported by the CGT (TUC) and by the Minister of Labour, Otero, who took this opportunity also to withdraw recognition from unother leading class struggle union, the FGB (Buenos Aires Printers Union).

The response of the working class, in solidarity with the militant tactics of direct action undertaken by the IKA workers, was one of active support-especially by the Fiat car workers; and there was also a systematic bombing of IKA offices throughout the country. Other sections of workers, such as the Salta engineers and the Buenos Aires printing workers and journalists were also on strike around mid August, In Cordoha itself there were violent clashes with the police on 26 August when the militant SMATA The back ground to this is the death Ieadership of Rene Salamanca was expelled from union headquarters by thugs of the collaborationist CGT and the police. Then on the next day Goya, the "lahour relations" director of IKA-Renault, was executed by the P'eronist Armed Forces (FAP). The militancy of the Cordoba working class is shown by their cur rent socin Cordoba 1s acadie Tamous "Cordobazo" insurrection which burst out on 29 May 1969 and whose repercussions eventually led to the downfall of the military At the same time, a product of the cabinet crisis on 13 August, wilch generams roswcd m a turne! mave towards oribodoy fie rencficnary) Peronism, was the naming of a to the student movement. However it would seem that the guerilla forces in the north-western provinces of Catamarca and Tucuman retain a solid 0992 their struggle will begin to fuse with others Ike that in Cordoba so that new education minister unacceptable all forces can strike together.

The steuggle for socialism in Argentina is at a crucial stuge, with a bourgeois political crisis, a working rising student militancy, unrest in the provinces after the federal interventions by Peron's successor, cte.
