Uncorrected machine reading. This text was read by machine (Apple Vision OCR) from a scan of a newspaper page, and the page was cut into articles by machine, at the headlines found by their type size. Nothing has been corrected: expect misread words, text from a neighbouring article, and titles that are the machine reading of the headline, some of them only fragments. Quote from the scan, not from this page.
How this article was cut and titled: headline found by type size in the OCR geometry (split_tabloid.py); 3-3 of 6; machine-segmented newspaper page; uncorrected Vision OCR.

THE INITIAL REACTION of the NALGO bureaucracy to the Pay Board report on London pay makes it likely that even they will be con tinuing the struggle for a higher London Allowance.

The union's national negotiators told the employers' representatives at die National Joint Council last Monday that they were not prepared to settle for the Pay Board's figures a C95 increase for Outer London and £256 for Inner London-hut instead wanted to negoliate on the basis of $186 and £216 increases for the two SECLOM The employers claimed that this was ourside the bounds of the report and so negotiations were called off uncil & July In this situation il is obvious that it won tec the skills of the merotlalors Chlat witt enable the London clzim ta smash past the Pay Board proposals. This can only be achleyed by massive, widespread strike acbon-something the union hureaucracy has beca afraid to do ever since they called the Islingion branch back to work when It lookod close to taking control of the campaign oul of their hands.

One feature of the resistance' of the the principle of incruasing the differental between Iener and Outer Landen. The claim is for a Rat rate 540D increase, bus the nepotistors will only be talking around than 50% of the clain for the whole of London and attempting to split off the core militant sections in the central London branches from tie rost of the DIXITICT Any strategy to comber the Pay Bourd proposals must start from the basis of a flat rate $400 incruase to unily the whole membership behind the claim.

that the only way this can he achieved is trough the cank-and-file organising and leading the campaign. The continuation of the strugale makos it imperarive tor an air bandon acbon constos Lo be formud from the local government and clectricity warkers taking action, and campaign by organising the widest possi ble extension of strikes CAL
