Hern Italian city of Brescia live continually under the cloud of indiscriminate fascist violence.

A centre of Italian fascist activities, Brescia has seen no less than nine bombings of left-wing political headquarters and trade union offices this year alone.

The fascists carry our their activity protected by a conspiracy between the police, the courts and the organisations of the extreme right. Open preparation of violent actions bas been ignored by the police. and 1 fascist terrarists, if apprehended, can usually count on lenient treatment. This is hardly surprising, since more trates are members of right-wing political groups.

Last week the people of Brescia decided that they had stood for chough. The local trade unions proclaimed a four hour general strike, and a mass anti-fascist sally was organised for the city centre.

Thousands turned out to demonstrate their opposition tn fascism. The fascists did not dare show their faces, but they were present at the demonstration nonetheless: during the mass rally a time-bomb-2 Ibs of gelignite planted in a wastepaper bin-went off in the midst of the crowd. Six people were killed and injured suhsequently died, and at lease ten others were horribly Brescia is not an isolated case similar situations exist all across Traly. A few hours later he was dragged from his home and shot. fascism amounts to ill practice. It 15 a lesson we shouki take to heart in this country It is all very well to talk of tree speech, but you can't talk sense to a time-bomb. Brescia is a stark reminder of what These are some of the supporters of the National Front in Brent I a high immigrant areal, praparing for their motor-cade through the Borough last Saturday. The response of the Labour council to their activities has been pathetic, suen though they are putting their racist filth out round schools. The labour mouement must take thair threat seriously - liberalism and free speach will not stop them. Red Weekly Pare 3
