A major concession has been forced out of the management of Maclaren Controls, the ITT factory in Glasgow which has been occupied for over 19 weeks.

Previously they had relused lo negotiate before the sit-in ended, and had demanded immediate redundancles. But the growing support for the occupation among trade unionists in the Glasgow area, and the moves towards the setting up of an ITT combine committee, which has discussed a blacking campaign, have forced the management to step back from its intransigent position.

COMBINE COMMITTEE Last weekend, shop stewards from ITT factories all over Britain, Including London, the Midlands and Scotland, and also from Belfast, met in the occupied factory in a second meeting to discuss the combine committee and support for the occupation. They represented a total of 10,000 workers.

The ITT stewards passed the following resolution: "This meeting" of combine stewards pledges to fully report the current situation in the Maclaren dispute, and If no satisfaotory settlemont is reached in the next round of talks with the management then positive action in support of TAC BATE TE WHIC considered."

The Macaters stewards ate acutely aware of the management's previous record, and have presented them with a set of terms of reference which must be accepted betore negotiations can begin. These terms are designed to ensure that in any negonanons tee joos and trade watou rights of the workers are protected.
